Bignonia magnifica (Glowvine)

Native from Panama to northern Venezuela and Ecuador, this evergreen woody vine climbs by tendrils and has paired, leathery leaflets. Its large pink-purple to mauve trumpet-shaped flowers have pale, hairy throats marked with darker lines. Mature plants can flower throughout the year in warm tropical conditions. It is widely cultivated under the name Saritaea magnifica. It has naturalized in Queensland, Australia, and is an environmental weed in northern Queensland, where infestations can cover several acres. Its vigorous growth can smother surrounding vegetation, and discarded garden cuttings can spread the plant. Photographed in Armenia, Colombia.
