Bignonia diversifolia
Native from southern Mexico through Central America to Brazil, and to Cuba, this woody vine climbs by slender tendrils. It grows in forests and thickets, including dry tropical forests in Colombia. Its leaves usually have two leaflets, although young shoots may bear undivided leaves. Clusters of purple to reddish-purple trumpet-shaped flowers have white throats and a faint sweet fragrance. The flattened seed capsules contain seeds with broad, papery wings. Photographed in the department of Atlántico, Colombia.
