Begonia guaduensis

A scrambling herbaceous begonia native from Costa Rica through northern South America, this plant grows in wet tropical forest, where it may root in soil, climb through other vegetation, or grow epiphytically on mossy trunks. It grows from about 230 to 5,970 feet in elevation. Branched inflorescences rise on reddish stalks. The unisexual flowers have white to pink-tinged tepals; male flowers carry a conspicuous yellow cluster of stamens, while female flowers develop a three-winged capsule. Photographed in Colombia.
