Begonia fischeri

Native to Mexico, Central America, Cuba, Jamaica, and much of South America, this perennial herb has a shrub-like habit. It can flower throughout the year, with blooming slowing in extreme heat or cold. The white or pink flowers are separate male and female blooms on the same plant. Female flowers develop capsules with three unequal wings and many tiny seeds. It grows rapidly in cultivation and has been used to breed ornamental hybrids. It is considered locally extinct in Cuba.
