Barnadesia dombeyana

Native to the Andes of Peru and Bolivia, Barnadesia dombeyana is a shrub or small tree that thrives in montane forests and cloud forest edges, typically at elevations between 6,500 and 11,500 feet. Its distinctive flower heads consist of elongated, slender ray florets in shades of pink to purple, often tipped darker, surrounding tubular disc florets that are usually pale to white. Its leaves are simple, alternately arranged, and often armed with a small apical spine. Photographed in Peru.
