Native to the humid foothills of the Himalayas, this shrub is noted for its mauve flowers that exhibit a distinct 2-lipped form, presenting a style that's exserted amidst keeled bracts/bracteoles. Barleria strigosa carries a host of medicinal attributes. Studies have unveiled its potential in mitigating a plethora of ailments due to its antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties, among others. Its leaves, in particular, have been utilized in Thai traditional medicine as antipyretics and antidotes for detoxification of poisons. Photographed in Floridablanca, Colombia.
