Clusters of Azara dentata flowers have numerous long yellow stamens beside dark green leaves

Azara dentata

Endemic to Chile, from the Coquimbo region south to Araucanía, this evergreen shrub reaches about eight feet tall. Its strongly fragrant yellow flowers have no showy petals; long, brightly colored stamens give the clusters their fuzzy appearance. The flowers are followed by small orange berries. Its native habitat has a Mediterranean climate. Its flowers attract bees. It occurs on sunny slopes and can be propagated from seed or cuttings. Photographed in Florida.
