Cluster of Aspasia epidendroides orchid flowers with white petals, pale pink-purple lips, and yellow-green sepals set against elongated green leaves
Aspasia epidendroides

Aspasia epidendroides is a medium-sized epiphytic orchid native to Central America. It typically grows in warm to cool cloud forests at elevations between 1,600 and 6,600 feet (500–2,000 m), anchoring itself to tree branches where humidity is high and light is filtered. The species is known for its distinctive flowers, which feature broad white petals and lips tinged with light lavender to pink near the base, contrasting with sepals that are yellow-green and sometimes faintly veined. The column is prominently shaped and often flushed with pink or purple, adding to the orchid’s ornamental appeal. Each inflorescence emerges from the base of the pseudobulbs and usually carries several blooms that open simultaneously, often lasting for two to three weeks. Photographed in Panama.
