Aragoa abietina
Native only to Colombia, this perennial shrub usually grows about 3 to 6.5 feet tall in the high Andes. Small, dark green leaves grow in close spiral rows along its branches, giving it a conifer-like appearance. Solitary white flowers have four spreading lobes, followed by small seed capsules. It often grows in waterlogged hollows and peat-bog communities, where it can be a dominant shrub. Flowering occurs through much of the year. Photographed at the Páramo de BerlĂn, Colombia, above 11,000 feet.
