Deep pink Arachnothryx leucophylla flowers have four spreading lobes, yellow anthers, and long pale-hairy tubes

Arachnothryx leucophylla (Panama Rose)

Native to Mexico, this evergreen shrub usually grows about 3 to 10 feet tall in gardens and can reach 20 feet in the wild. Its deep pink tubular flowers form rounded clusters and release their strongest fragrance after sunset. Soft white hairs cover the undersides of the leaves, giving them a pale appearance. Its nectar attracts bees and butterflies, and it can be propagated from stem cuttings. Photographed in Florida.
