Annona squamosa (Sugar Apple)

Native to tropical Americas and Colombia where it has a habitat between 650 and 4,500 feet. The sweet, fragrant, custard like, greenish-yellow, scaly fruit resembles a pinecone and is called cherimoya in Colombia. The fruit is ripe when soft with tastes reminiscent of vanilla, banana, and pear. The fruit is commonly eaten fresh or blending it into smoothies and desserts. It is rich in vitamin C, dietary fiber, and various minerals. The flowers are fragrant. It is cultivated in India, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and various Latin American countries.
