The Blue-winged Mountain Tanager is native to the Andean regions of Bolivia to Venezuela. It thrives in highland forests and woodlands, including cloud forests, primarily at elevations from 3,900 to 8,200 feet. Recognizable by its bright yellow underparts, black upperparts, and striking blue accents on the wings and tail, the bird's coloration can vary slightly across its range. For instance, some populations in Ecuador and Colombia display a mossy green back instead of the typical black. This species is considered common within its range and is classified as "Least Concern" by the IUCN. The Blue-winged Mountain Tanager is not known to be migratory, tending to remain in its native ranges throughout the year.
