Anisognathus notabilis, is a bird species native to the Andes of South America, particularly found in western Colombia and northwestern Ecuador. This species inhabits the humid montane forests and cloud forests at elevations ranging from approximately 4,900 to 9,800 feet. It prefers the dense, high-altitude forest canopies, where it finds ample food sources and cover. The black-chinned mountain tanager is often found in mixed-species flocks, a behavior that allows it to forage more efficiently and gain protection from predators. The diet of the black-chinned mountain tanager consists primarily of fruits, berries, and insects, which it forages for in the upper layers of the forest. It is known for its active behavior, moving quickly through branches in search of food and often emitting a series of sharp calls. Though generally shy and reclusive, it is sometimes observed in pairs or small groups, especially during the breeding season. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) currently lists the black-chinned mountain tanager as Least Concern. However, like many Andean bird species, it faces potential threats from habitat loss due to deforestation and agricultural expansion.
