Ageratum houstonianum (Flossflower)

Ageratum houstonianum is a flowering plant native to Central America and Mexico. This annual herb thrives in warm, humid climates and grows well in open fields, along roadsides, and in cultivated areas. It has a bushy, compact habit, typically reaching 1 to 2 feet in height. The plant is known for its fluffy, pom-pom-like flower clusters, which appear in shades of blue, lavender, pink, or white. Due to its attractive and continuous flowering, flossflower is widely used as an ornamental in gardens across the United States, Europe, and other temperate regions. Many cultivars have been developed to provide a range of colors and growth habits.
In some regions, particularly in Australia and parts of Asia, flossflower has been noted to naturalize. Photographed in Florida.
