Ageratum conyzoides is a fast-growing, herbaceous plant native to Central and South America but now widely naturalized across tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. It typically thrives in disturbed areas, roadsides, pastures, and cultivated fields, where it can become invasive. This species is characterized by its clusters of fluffy, white to pale blue flower heads, each composed of many tiny tubular florets with long, protruding styles that give the plant its characteristic fuzzy appearance. It emits a distinct odor when crushed. Ageratum conyzoides contains bioactive compounds such as alkaloids and flavonoids that have been investigated for antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and insecticidal properties, but it is also known to be toxic to livestock due to the presence of pyrrolizidine alkaloids. Its adaptability and prolific growth have made it one of the world’s most widespread weeds.
