Achimenes hybrid
Originating from Mexico and Central America, the Achimenes species is highly valued for its ornamental appeal. It is commonly cultivated in greenhouses or used as outdoor bedding plants in subtropical regions. The plant is renowned for its large, brightly colored flowers, a feature that has led to extensive hybridization, particularly with the large-flowered species A. grandiflora and A. longiflora (One of two native species of genus Achimenes in Colombia). Photographed in the department of Quindio, Colombia where is is cultivated between 3,300 and 5,500 feet.
