Native to tropical Asia, it is an evergreen rainforest tree that can reach about eighty-nine feet tall. Its rounded fruits have red skins covered with numerous soft, hair-like projections. Inside, a sweet white fleshy covering surrounds a single seed. Small cream to yellowish-green flowers develop in branching clusters. The species belongs to Sapindaceae and is closely related to lychee and longan. Photographed in Colombia.
