Maxillaria pseudoreichenheimiana

Native to northwestern Colombia and Ecuador, this small epiphytic orchid occurs in wet montane cloud forests. Its compressed pseudobulbs each bear a single leaf, often marked with white spots. Solitary flowers emerge on short stalks from the base, below the foliage. The flowers can reach about 2 inches across and have narrow, spreading segments surrounding the much smaller central lip. Its flowers sometimes grow downward. Photographed in Colombia.
