Maxillaria pseudoneglecta
Native to Costa Rica and Panama, this small epiphytic orchid has elongated stems with spaced pseudobulbs. Short flower stalks emerge in groups at the bases of the pseudobulbs. The small flowers may be yellow, orange, or white, with an orange middle lobe on the lip. The lateral sepals are joined for about half their length, and the lip has three lobes. In Costa Rica, it grows on trees in pastures, forest edges and secondary growth, with records from about 2,600 to 6,250 feet. Its flowers can have a pleasant fragrance. Photographed in Panama.
