Typha domingensis

Native across warm temperate and tropical regions, Typha domingensis is a tall rhizomatous perennial of marshes, lake margins, and shallow water. Long narrow leaves rise in dense stands from submerged bases. Each flowering stem carries a cylindrical brown female spike below a narrower male section that releases abundant pollen. Photographed in Colombia.
