Scaphosepalum lima

A small epiphytic orchid native to Colombia, Scaphosepalum lima inhabits cool humid Andean cloud forests. Slender inflorescences carry unusual pendent flowers with fused lateral sepals forming a curved, pouchlike structure covered in fine hairs. The pink-purple flowers arise near small leathery leaves on short, tightly clustered stems. Photographed in Colombia.
