Pinguicula esseriana

A small carnivorous perennial native to northeastern Mexico, Pinguicula esseriana grows on limestone cliffs and rocky slopes in seasonally dry habitats. Its compact rosette consists of glandular leaves that capture tiny insects. During drier periods the plant forms a tighter succulent resting rosette, while the growing season brings solitary violet-pink flowers on slender stalks. Photographed in Florida.
