Phlogacanthus turgidus

A tropical shrub native to mainland Southeast Asia, Phlogacanthus turgidus is recorded from Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam and has been introduced to several tropical islands. Its dense terminal spikes are built from overlapping dark bracts and large pale flowers. The two-lipped corollas have rounded upper lobes and a yellow-marked lower lip. Photographed in Virginia.
