Phlomis fruticosa

An evergreen shrub native to the central and eastern Mediterranean, Phlomis fruticosa grows in dry rocky vegetation from Italy and the western Balkans through Greece, Turkey, and Cyprus. Woolly gray-green stems and foliage reduce water loss in exposed habitats. Yellow two-lipped flowers are arranged in distinct whorls around the upright stems. Photographed in Florida.
