Rubus coriaceus large magenta five petaled flower with many stamens among leathery toothed leaves

Rubus coriaceus

Native from Colombia to Bolivia, this Andean blackberry shrub grows in cool montane vegetation and shrubby pƔramo. Prickly stems support thick leathery leaves and large magenta flowers with many central stamens. The fruits are aggregates of many small drupelets, each developing from a separate ovary within a single flower. The ripe fruits are edible and used in juices, jams, and sweets. Photographed in Colombia.
