Puya laxa branching stem with narrow reddish buds and tubular flowers above a spiny leaf rosette

Puya laxa

Puya laxa is a terrestrial bromeliad native to Bolivia. Narrow, arching leaves form a spiny rosette close to the ground. The branching inflorescence carries elongated buds and tubular flowers among reddish bracts, with stamens extending beyond the petals when the flowers open. The species is adapted to dry, rocky Andean slopes and requires strong light with rapidly draining soil. Photographed in Florida.
