Echeveria quitensis
Native to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela, it is a succulent subshrub with branching stems and rosettes of fleshy leaves at the branch tips. The smooth leaves are broader toward the tips and may have reddish margins. Upright flowering stems bear small flowers that are pink to orange on the outside and yellow within. The pointed petal tips curve slightly outward as the flowers open. Dry, brown fruits split open when mature. The species varies considerably in leaf shape and color, and older stems may lean or trail where plants grow on steep surfaces. Photographed in Colombia.
