Begonia coccinea (Scarlet Begonia) is an epiphytic subshrub native to wet tropical forest in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It has been introduced to Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Trinidad and Tobago and is cultivated in the Colombian Andes. Upright, cane-like stems support asymmetrical foliage and branching clusters of pendant flowers.

The flowers range from coral-red to scarlet. Each has broad, rounded tepals surrounding a compact group of yellow stamens, creating a clear color contrast. Male and female flowers occur separately on the same plant, and the female flowers develop a winged ovary. The species has long been used in ornamental breeding and remains cultivated for its arching flower clusters. Photographed in Colombia.
