Citharexylum caudatum
Citharexylum caudatum, is native to the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America, and a fast-growing evergreen tree that can reach up to 50 feet tall, characterized by its long, narrow leaves and cascading clusters of fragrant, tubular white flowers. The blossoms are followed by orange to red drupes. The wood of this species has been traditionally valued in parts of the Caribbean for crafting instruments, especially stringed ones, which is how the genus earned its name Citharexylum meaning “lyre wood.” Photographed in Panama.
