Citharexylum spinosum, commonly called fiddlewood or spiny fiddlewood, is native to the Caribbean, where it grows as a medium-sized evergreen tree. It is characterized by its glossy, dark green foliage, small spines on branches, and fragrant white flowers arranged in elongated clusters. These blossoms develop into orange-red to black berries. The plant is cultivated as an ornamental in tropical and subtropical regions. It is distinct from other Citharexylum species such as C. fruticosum by its larger stature and the presence of small spines, which give the tree its common name. Photographed in Florida.
