Bidens alba Flowers
Bidens alba

Native to the Americas from the southern United States into South America, Bidens alba is a fast-growing annual or short-lived perennial herb often found in disturbed areas, roadsides, and open fields. It produces slender green stems and opposite leaves, with flower heads composed of white ray florets surrounding a dense cluster of yellow disc florets. The blooms typically measure ½–1 in across and occur prolifically throughout much of the year in warm climates. The plant is notable for its barbed seeds that cling to clothing and animal fur, aiding in dispersal. It grows readily in full sun and well-drained soils and has a high tolerance for drought once established, allowing it to colonize a wide variety of habitats. Photographed in Ecuador.
