Two slender yellow-green spadices of Anthurium forgetii rising above narrow green spathes in a tropical understory
Anthurium forgetii

Anthurium forgetii is a distinctive aroid native to tropical rainforests of Colombia, thriving in warm, humid lowland and mid-elevation habitats. While many cultivated forms are known for their velvety, heart-shaped leaves with prominent white veins, in its natural flowering stage it produces elongated, slightly curved spadices that bear numerous tiny, tightly packed flowers. These spadices emerge from narrow, leaf-like spathes, which serve as subtle floral bracts. The flowers progress through distinct phases to attract different pollinators, often small beetles or flies, which are characteristic visitors to Araceae blooms. This species grows as an epiphyte or terrestrial plant in shaded understory environments, where its roots cling to mossy branches or leaf litter-rich soils. Photographed in Colombia.
