A dense cluster of white daisy-like flower heads with broad ray florets and bright orange-yellow disc florets belonging to Alloispermum caracasanum
Alloispermum caracasanum

This species is native to northern South America, particularly Venezuela and Colombia. It is a herbaceous perennial with branched, hairy stems that grow upright or sprawling across the ground. The flower heads appear singly or in small groups and consist of 8 to 12 white ray florets surrounding a compact central disc made up of tubular florets that range in color from yellow to orange-red. Each disc floret has a protruding style and pollen-laden anthers, giving the center a vivid, brush-like texture during anthesis.

It blooms over a long season. The structure of the inflorescence is typical of the group, with the outer ray florets serving a visual function and the inner florets responsible for reproduction. Photographed in Colombia.
