An annual species originating from Asia with showy bicolor blooms with shades ranging from pale violet to dark purple. It does not fare well in hot and humid conditions​​​​​​. These variations, along with the species' ease of growth in shaded areas, have made it a popular choice for gardeners seeking to brighten up less sunny spots.
