Prunus avium (Sweet Cherry)
Native to Europe, North Africa, and Western Asia and has been introduced to a multitude of regions across the globe. There are many varieties. These fruits are an excellent source of vitamin C, fiber, carotenoids, potassium, hydroxycinnamates, quercetin, melatonin, and anthocyanins, with many health benefits. Sweet cherry production has increased notably, with Iran, the USA, and Turkey emerging as major producers. Photographed in the department of Boyaca, Colombia where the fruit is of poor quality.
