Hailing from Maritime Southeast Asia, the small tree is a species that thrives in areas with rich soil and a hot, humid climate. It is known for its significant role in agroforestry, particularly in improving soil fertility through nitrogen fixation and serving as green manure, which underscores its value beyond mere aesthetics. Its components, including bark, roots, leaves, and flowers, are utilized for their astringent, antihistaminic, anxiolytic, anticonvulsive, and febrifugal properties. Contemporary studies have suggested potential cardioprotective, antidiabetic, antiurolithiatic, hypolipidemic, anticancer, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory effects. The plant has edible flowers.
