A small bird species found primarily in the highlands of the Andes in Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela. This species typically inhabits subtropical and tropical montane forests at elevations between 4,000 to 8,000 feet, where it prefers dense foliage in the forest understory and edges. Its range also extends into cloud forests and occasionally to the edges of agricultural areas. The golden-faced tyrannulet is generally considered abundant in its native range. This species is small, around 4 inches in length, with a distinctive bright yellow face, grayish-green upperparts, and a pale yellowish belly. It is an insectivore. Photographed in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia.
