Xylopia sericea


Native to eastern and central South America, Xylopia sericea is an evergreen tree of tropical and subtropical forest. Narrow leathery leaves have a silky covering when young. Pale flowers are followed by clusters of separate elongated fruit segments that turn reddish as they mature and split to reveal dark seeds. Photographed in Colombia.
