Wisteria sinensis

Wisteria sinensis is a large deciduous woody vine native to China. Its stems twine around supports and become thick and twisted with age. The leaves are pinnately compound. Fragrant, pea-shaped flowers, usually blue-violet but sometimes white, hang in racemes about 6–12 inches long and open before the foliage has fully emerged. They are followed by velvety, bean-like pods that turn brown and persist into autumn. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia.
