Vicia andicola violet pea-shaped flowers with pale wing petals on a slender stem

Vicia andicola

Native to the high Andes of northwestern South America, Vicia andicola is a slender climbing herb of pƔramo, grassland, and open montane vegetation. Paired leaflets end in branching tendrils that support the stems among surrounding plants. Purple pea-shaped flowers are borne in small clusters and mature into narrow legume pods. Photographed in Colombia.
