Verbesina encelioides

Native to the southern United States and Mexico, Verbesina encelioides is an annual or short-lived perennial herb of open dry ground and disturbed places. Broad triangular leaves line the branching stems. Solitary golden flower heads have long yellow ray florets surrounding a darker disk, producing a sunflower-like appearance.
