Urtica dioica yellow inflorescences
Urtica dioica

The stinging nettle originates from Europe, it has naturalized in many regions. Stinging nettle has garnered attention for its medicinal properties, often used to treat joint pain, eczema, arthritis, gout, and anemia. Its leaves, rich in antioxidants, lutein, lycopene, and iron, are commonly consumed as a nourishing tea. The young leaves, when processed by cooking, drying, or freeze-drying, lose their stinging quality and are safe to eat, offering a nutritious addition to the diet with a spinach-like flavor. The plant is also known for its invasive nature. Photographed in the department in Quindio, Colombia.
