Tropaeolum smithii

Native to the tropical Andes, Tropaeolum smithii is a climbing herb with slender stems and palmately divided leaves. Long-stalked flowers open in red-orange shades, with narrow fringed petals surrounding a deeper red throat. A prominent backward-pointing spur extends from the floral base. The stems climb through nearby mountain vegetation. Photographed in Colombia.
