Tillandsia complanata flattened red-bracted spike bearing a narrow violet tubular flower

Tillandsia complanata

Native from Costa Rica through the tropical Andes, Tillandsia complanata is an epiphytic bromeliad of humid mountain forest. Strap-shaped leaves form a loose rosette that collects light and moisture in the forest canopy. Flattened flower spikes display overlapping pink to red bracts, with narrow violet flowers emerging in sequence. Photographed in Colombia.
