This attractive evergreen woody liane originates from the tropical montane forests of southern India. It is a robust climber that can reach a height of up to 30 feet or more. The vine is widely cultivated in tropical gardens. Esteemed by many as one of the most beautiful vines, it exhibits striking pendulous racemes of flowers, which can grow up to 3 feet long. The blooms, about 2 inches in length, display a prominent yellow throat with reflexed dark reddish-brown lobes. These flowers are not only showy but also produce copious amounts of nectar, attracting various pollinators. It has been honored with the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. Photographed in the central Andes mountain range of Colombia (Cordillera Central).
