Tecomaria capensis (Cape Honeysuckle)
Native from Tanzania to South Africa, this evergreen, scrambling shrub in the trumpet vine family grows about 8 to 13 feet tall. Its shiny green leaves are divided into toothed leaflets. Curved orange-red flowers grow in clusters at the branch tips; cultivated forms also have yellow or apricot flowers. In South Africa, sunbirds pollinate the flowers. Dry capsules release winged seeds carried by wind. It has naturalized in Florida and is invasive in Queensland and New South Wales, Australia. Photographed in Colombia and Florida.
