Taganga is a small fishing village turned backpacker hub, located about 15 minutes east of Santa Marta on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. The town is known for its rustic charm, budget accommodations, and as a gateway to nearby beaches that are more scenic and swimmable than the urban beaches of Santa Marta. While Taganga’s main beach is popular for its sunsets and social scene, it is not ideal for swimming due to boat traffic and inconsistent water quality. However, just a 5-20 minute boat ride from Taganga’s shore takes visitors to Playa Grande or other hidden beaches and covesincluding Playa Monoguaca and Playa Sisiguaca which are less crowded and more pristine.
