Tabernaemontana divaricata (Crape Jasmine)

Native from the Himalayas to southern China and mainland Southeast Asia, this evergreen shrub or small tree in the dogbane family usually grows about 6 to 10 feet tall. It has glossy dark green leaves and white, pinwheel-shaped flowers that are especially fragrant at night. In Singapore, it flowers throughout the year. Cultivated forms have single or double flowers, and some have variegated leaves. Broken stems release milky latex, and the plant is poisonous if eaten. Photographed in Barranquilla, Colombia.
