Stromanthe thalia

Native to eastern Brazil, Stromanthe thalia is a rhizomatous tropical herb that forms dense clumps beneath humid forest cover. Upright leaves rise on long sheathing stalks, and cultivated selections may display cream, green, pink, and red variegation. Red bracts surround small pale flowers on compact inflorescences held among the foliage. Photographed in Colombia.
