Native from the Himalayas through southern China and mainland Southeast Asia, Strobilanthes cusia is an evergreen shrub of humid subtropical forests. Magenta-purple tubular flowers curve outward from leafy stems and open into five shallow lobes. The species has a long history as a source of natural indigo dye in parts of Asia.
